Building Green Technology in Banking

When grocery shopping and booking a hotel can be done from your living room couch, banking has also advanced its technology to be just as convenient and beneficial to the environment. Digital banking has grown greener with each technical advancement, from saving the gas you'd need for the trip to a branch to saving the paper used for statements. If you haven't taken the leap to online and mobile banking, now's a great time to make the jump!

Should I use Online Banking?

Aside from the benefits of going green, sustainable banking offers many advantages: It can be done anytime, anywhere; you save money on gas and time on the commute; and you can be emailed monthly statements to keep everything organized and in one place.

Direct deposit allows you to avoid misplacing checks or waiting for them to clear. Automatic bill payments allow you to forget about your bills without forgetting to pay them, keeping your stress levels down and your credit scores high. Mobile check capture means taking care of deposits from anywhere you have access to the internet. With Online and Mobile Banking features, you're not only saving the earth, you're saving yourself time, money and energy!

Are there downsides to digital banking?

Some people find budget-keeping more difficult when a glance at a phone screen could reveal a generous bank balance while neglecting payments that are still outstanding. The best fix for this is to set up separate accounts for savings and spending so you know exactly what's in your checking account. Plus, if you're an FCU member, you also have access to our budgeting tab within our Online Banking that can help you manage your spending more effectively.

The most common fear is of hackers and identity theft. Florida Credit Union uses industry-leading security protection technology and is constantly monitoring for the newest threats, making sure we stay ahead of the dangers online. Members can also strengthen their security by choosing strong passwords and refraining from banking on public computers. In fact, the advent of online banking has reduced the quantity of paper scraps containing personal information. This in and of itself is reducing incidences of identity theft!
